What is Wrong with Just Embracing Variation within the Binary?

Even though acknowledging gender variance is a step in the right direction, it does not eliminate the fundamental problem  of forcing people into a binary, in which they will always be considered abnormal. There is a standard for each gender to which post-genderists do not conform. In today’s society gender variance is acknowledge and accepted to a certain degree. Despite this they are often ridiculed for not conforming enough to their gender. Even those who are not ridiculed have the propensity to feel that they have ‘failed’ in some way by not living up to the standards of their gender. Many post-genderists have an innate attachment to both or neither gender and are forced to pretend to be something they are not by being forced to associate with one gender or the other.

Additionally, allowing for gender variation does not address the issue of the gender hierarchy.
